Hooray!! Josh finished his first rotation! On Friday he took his shelf exam and that means Internal Medicine is OVER!
Onto July... research. Easy peasy. At least, we hope.
By way of celebration, Josh wanted to do something campy.
And he hand a hankering for chippyswans.
I realize that most of the people in the world have never heard of chippyswans and that is because it is a made up food. By some family somewhere that my parents know. And I think their last name is Swan. I think.
Anyway, after I cleaned the house, we packed up our gear and headed to Raccoon Creek National Park. It's only a 40 minute drive from our house, but far enough away from the city that we felt like we were in the wilderness!
The weather was PERFECT, Brinkley was in heaven because she got to run around like a crazy person, and we had the picnic area completely to ourselves!
It was a great time.
We had previously cooked hobo dinners at home(we figured we wouldn't have time to cook them up there... we were right). And we had ourselves a hobo dinner picnic. Josh worked on a fire for our chippyswans and I followed Brinks around with the camera while she played with dirt and rocks and grass and bugs.
The fire had a rough time though. We thought our plan was foiled. It wouldn't stay lit long enough to get going for our chippyswans! The whole purpose of our day trip!! Oh no!
We had just packed everything away in the car when Josh discovered a real fire pit instead of the lame-o metal grilly thingamajig. Phew!
So, we unpacked all of our stuff, Josh lit a real fire (and he was starting to get worried that he'd lost his pyro-skills), kept Brinkley up waaaaaayyyy past her bedtime (what a champ, she really hung in there), and made our beloved chippyswans.
Good way to celebrate Josh! Congrats on being finished with the first rotation!

Wonder why she is smiling in this picture?Probably because I let her play with a carton full of foot long matches.

Getting ready to eat our hobo dinners!
What a happy {day} camper!

Yes, I am laying on my big pregnant belly. Yes, it was uncomfortable. Yes, it was extremely difficult to get up off the ground.

Enjoying the cool grass.

This is how kids should be able to play. I always feel bad for my daughter when she has to run around on the sidewalk in front of our house. Hello! There are cars parked right there! So scary. I loved that she could just go wild without me worrying about her.

Ahh. And here dad and Brinks are by the real fire.
It was like 10:30pm. She really was a trooper.
(And it looks like I still need to figure out my camera settings for night shots. :) )
Oh, and for those who were wondering...
Chippyswans are:
Biscuits rolled into snakes. Then they are wrapped around a dowel and cooked over the fire. When the biscuit is done, you take it off the stick and fill it with honeybutter.
Oh my delicious.

Sounds like such a blast. Glad it worked out! Yay for research and baby girl coming!
What a fun day.
I am behind on commenting, but it's not really my fault. I am not use to you updating so often...hehe! I love little Brinkers! I can't believe how tall she looks, and her hair is getting so long (cute pig tails). I miss you!
