Have I ever mentioned how much I love my mom?
Cause I do. And we got lucky because she came to town to visit!
It was only for a week. I wish she could have stayed an extra year.
Fastest week ever.
Darn that job of hers. (Well, except for the fact that it funds her trips) I guess we will just stick with being grateful she had a whole week off and that she chose to spend it with us here in the 'burgh.
Oh my goodness we had fun!
We went thrift store shopping, a lot. (That is our favorite thing to do together!)
We looked at decorating magazines and cookbooks on the couch under a blanket (our other favorite thing to do together)
We gave each other backscratches (...or is this our favorite thing to do together? I can't decide)
We ate yummy chinese food.
Josh and I got to go on a date! Awesome.
Grandma got to watch Brinks do gymnastics.
We played outside on the one day it didn't rain in Pittsburgh. Ha ha.
We colored and glittered Easter eggs. Grandma Ginny's is the blue one (that's what Brinkley keeps telling me)
We watched Tangled (I seriously LOVE that movie. I may like it more than Brinkley does! And she loves it!)
We went to the library and then readd lots of Fancy Nancy books together (LOVE those!).
We ate and ate and ate.
And we went to Kirtland, Ohio!
We visited the Church's visitors center there. We also went on the Kirtland Temple tour. Then we took a little drive to Hiram, OH to see the John Johnson home. It was all amazing. I am always so impressed by the generosity and faithfulness of the Saints. I love seeing all the little homes and how they lived. Can you imagine cooking over a fire? Or placing your pajamas above the fireplace so they are warm when you put them on? Or sleeping on a bed made of ropes and a mattress made of hay?
I was touched by the story of Joseph being tarred and feathered. It makes me so sad, but so amazed at his strength to endure all the hardships he went through.
Ever since then, Josh has been reading church history books and then telling me all the coolest stories. I love when stuff like that inspires us.
I am so glad my mom got to experience Kirtland.
Although we live {very} far away from each other, us being here has given all of us some great experiences that we would not have had otherwise. We are grateful for that.
Especially since this is possibly her last trip to Pittsburgh. Unless she starts missing us too much again. As she says, "the girls become a dream."
The girls loved having her here too. Brinkley keeps talking about her. She asks everyday where she is (Grandma Ginny at work?). And she asks me to sing Grandma Ginny's song
(Grandma Ginny, Grandma Ginny, Grandma Ginny loves you.
Grandma Ginny, Grandma Ginny, Grandma Ginny loves you!)
She stopped asking after a while. It's not the same when mom sings it.
Grandma Ginny is the only person Brinkley will crawl into bed with in the mornings. She usually just wakes me up to get her breakfast. I wish she would climb into bed with me and go back to sleep! She also liked that Grandma had chocolate in her suitcase. Not to mention a pretty Easter dress! Brinkley loves dresses. I have always felt that Brinks and my mom have a special bond. I notice it every time they are together.
Darcy was going through a weird mama separation anxiety stage while my mom was here. Too bad. But don't get me wrong - she was still good and liked Grandma Ginny just fine. She just had to always check that I was close by.
I was particularly sad after my mom left this time. More so than usual. It felt so lonely during the day when Josh was gone and my mom wasn't there to keep my company. Or to pick up the kids messes. :)
I just have to add that my mom is the sweetest, most generous mom in the whole world! She probably wouldn't want me to tell this story, but I want to.
She found a $20 bill in the Salt Lake airport on her way here. She was so excited! My mom gets excited about finding dimes on the sidewalk, so you can imagine what a twenty would do. Instead of keeping it for herself, she was so excited to spend it on... guess who?
Me.
That's right. She loves me. We thrifted the day away on that twenty bucks.
That's just how my mom is.
I love her!
Thank you soooo much for coming mom. I love you. And so do the girls. And so does Josh.

Grandma we love you.
Grandma we do.
Father in Heaven has sent us to you!
When we are near you,
We love to hear you singing so softly that you love us too.
Grandma we love you, we love you,
we do.
