Last Ditch Effort

Summer was nearing the end and we hadn't gone to any beaches yet.
Which is so silly. We live by a bunch of them.
(Not real ocean beaches... man-made lake beaches, but my kids don't know the difference)

So, on a whim the Kjar's and us decided to head to the beach on a very hot day at the end of August.
We loaded up all our crap beach stuff plus the kids and met at the nearby free parking beach.

Much to our chagrin, the beach was 'closed.'
Big yellow closed signs everywhere.
Closed in August... before school is even in? And it's still 90-something degrees outside!!
WHAT?? WHY?

But gosh darnit, we weren't going to let that stop us from going to the beach this summer! :)
We did try to keep the kids out of the water as much as possible, but it was just too tempting!
They had a good time playing in the sand and chasing all the seagulls (through the masses of uncleaned bird poop) and of course, playing in the illegal water.
After a while we stopped trying to get them to stay away from all the bird poop. There was just too much of it to avoid it.
Oh well. We're not dead.
It was a beautiful day and we had lots of new friends breaking the closed beach rules with us.

(This nice lady played ring around the rosie with all the kids)
