I have no idea why this post has been so difficult for me to do.
I do have a theory...
1. We did sooo much I knew it would either have to be a gigantic post or many small ones. Both seemed daunting.
2. Also because we did so much, I am not sure whether to try and squeeze it all into my blog or just write something simple. Even as I write this I'm not sure how it will turn out.
2. I don't exactly know how to put into words how wonderful this trip was. I seriously loved every single minute. For me, it was perfect.
Okay, so here goes my daunting task.
I loved Nauvoo.
I loved everything about Nauvoo.
It was probably the best vacation I have ever been on.
I'm not kidding!
Yes, it was a 12 hour drive there and a 12 hour drive back. With two kids.
But it was so worth it! I would do it again in a heartbeat.
October was the BEST time of year to go. We practically had the place to ourselves. We got all chummy with the cute senior missionary couples. And the weather was perfect!
The girls were good.
My mom was there.
Josh got his fill of churchy stuff which turns him into the church history geek that I love so much.
We got to do just about everything we wanted to do. We could have used just one more day to do some shopping. But whatdya do?
We saw all the little sites, Carthage was incredible, loved the small feel of Nauvoo, enjoyed the view of the Mississippi, and got to go to the temple!
Speaking of, I think have a new favorite temple.
I got to do a session with my mom and my husband. Which means I got a 5 hour break from my kids! While in the temple! :)
Who's the church geek now?
It was beautiful. And the feeling there was amazing.
And I got to hang out for like 30 minutes in the dressing room with all the lady temple workers.
(while I was waiting for my mom)
It was like watching Steel Magnolias - LDS version.
We took a walk around Nauvoo at night. It was peaceful. Except the little sounds we kept hearing but didn't know what they were. That was a little scary.
We stayed in a Log Cabin. That was like a vacation in a vacation!
My appreciation for the Saints grew so much while in Nauvoo. They sacrificed so much - including their beautiful temple - to do what the Lord asked them to do. I got a glimpse of how they may have felt as I walked down Parley street and looked back at the temple on the hill. How did they do it? Incredible. I am so grateful that temple was rebuilt, and that I had the opportunity to spend time in that little town.
Well, that was a little bit hodgepodged and sporatic. But I hope I conveyed how I felt.
I love Nauvoo. Hope I get to go back again.

Isn't Nauvoo the BEST?! My friend's parents are serving a mission there, so we went for a week during her Son's spring break this year (yes, just the two of us with our kids, 5 of them - we're crazy). It was so much fun that Ry & I stopped on our way cross country so he could experience it. Love, love, LOVE Nauvoo!
PS - beautiful pictures {btw}
I LOVE the picture of your mom and Brinkley by the river...I miss your mom...and your dad...pretty much your whole family! I'm jealous of your trip!
